Discover the ideal blend of location, value, and luxury at Royal Plaza Hotel. Experience hospitality at its finest.
There are tons of accommodations dotting the skyline of Hong Kong making it easy to choose a hotel but to find the right place is rather arduous and daunting.
So, when choosing our first home in Hong Kong, it all came down to a special blend of location, value for money, upscale credentials, reviews and a dash of luck – enter Royal Plaza Hotel.
This majestic hotel ticked off all our boxes – location, unique design elements, friendly service, fantastic cuisine and bar, world class amenities – everything we could ever hope for!
Location of Royal Plaza
Nestled amidst the bustling heart of vibrant Kowloon in Mong Kok, the hotel conveniently sits atop the MTR Mong Kok East Station, a transportation hub that offers easy access to MTR lines nearby, and from where travelers can take a 45-minute train ride to China as well as the Hong Kong International Airport.
It’s a great base for exploring the western part of Kowloon, as there’s easy access to the metro, traditional markets and food stalls, as well as the modern shopping malls for which the area is famous for.
Arriving at Royal Plaza
We were thrilled to have been upgraded to Royal Club Deluxe which means we had associated benefits that came with it.
First of which was the personalized express check-in at the Royal Club Lounge on Level 19.
We were seated in a nice, cozy couch with our warm cup of coffee while waiting for our key cards.
Then, after all the formalities, we were escorted to our room at the same level…
Our room
“Grand!” was first thing that came to my mind upon entering our Royal Club Deluxe room.
Our home for the next few nights is smart, modern, and spacious by Hong Kong standards, with great city views and stylish bathroom.
It features warm neutral caramel palettes complemented by a chic gray carpet with navy-colored patterns, providing a vibrant contrast for the room’s textured walls, twisted wood panel finish, work desk and chair, and night table in timber, to further enhance the chic ambiance of the room.
Our entertainment is assured with in-room complimentary WiFi and broadband Internet, as well as a 46” LED TV with 60 TV channels plus video on demand.
All these, including a conveniently placed USB charging socket on the wall, highlight the hotel’s reputation as a home away from home.
The bathroom is particularly striking, with chic dark gray marble walls, floors, and counter tops, plus contemporary fixtures and glass shower cubicles and separate soaking tub.
There is a roll up curtain to view the rest of the room which can double as a partition for added privacy.
There are plenty of clever features of the Royal Plaza experience that kept us consistently amused.
Notably, one of my favorites was a mobile phone, ‘the Handy’, that we could take with us that provided unlimited free internet and local and international calls.
We used the Handy phone every chance we got: to hunt down a food shop in a six-story mall and to navigate to a street market while we walked — and we didn’t have to pay our carrier a dime for expensive roaming data or worry about homing in on a WiFi signal while out and about.
Amenities
To ensure the satisfaction of its guests, Royal Plaza offers tons of fun and relaxing amenities.
There’s a large, heated outdoor pool and Jacuzzi which we used in some occasions after a tiring day of sightseeing. Oh, the Jacuzzi… we could stay there all day with Hong Kong’s cruel winter.
The is also a refreshing fitness center which has a range of cardio equipment, an aerobics room, a sauna and steam rooms plus a day spa on-site which offers massage and other treatments.
Dining
As Royal Club members, we have access to free breakfast, afternoon tea, and evening cocktails at the Royal Club Lounge.
My French husband is quite fastidious when it comes to food and beverage yet he was absolutely delighted by the quality of items served to the guests at Club Lounge.
To be honest, it is one of the reasons why we never wanted to leave!
Dining options are available as well. La Scala is an international buffet restaurant open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
To cater the different need of guests, La Scala has obtained the Halal Logo and Certification awarded by The Incorporated Trustees of the Islamic Community Fund of Hong Kong.
Di King Heen is a contemporary Chinese restaurant serving lunch and dinner which is located next to a ballroom that can easily be transformed into an additional dining space for a party or event.
The hotel’s bar, Lion Rock, has an extensive wine list and an incredible cocktail menu with nearly 200 options. Business guests can make use of the business center’s computer stations and secretarial, translation, and photocopying services.
We loved our stay at the Royal Plaza Hotel
I could write a few pages still and we wouldn’t have covered this hotel properly – it came to the point where we nearly tossed up seeing the city or just staying in and enjoying ourselves.
So, if I were to summarize, I’ll simply say this; real character, incredible amenities, perfect location, impeccable food, beautiful rooms and world class service.
Now, our biggest problem with this hotel which we’re still trying to surmount is where or how are we going to find another hotel that comes even close…
Until next time, Royal Plaza Hotel <3
