Unlock the things to do in Thailand. Explore vibrant markets, visit ancient temples, go scuba diving, and more.
Thailand is South East Asia’s most popular tourist destination, and it isn’t hard to see why.
Known for its beautiful beaches, awe-inspiring temples and exciting modern cities like Bangkok, the country has something to offer everyone, no matter who they are or what they’re into.
What to do in Thailand?
From the second you touch down in Thailand to the minute you leave, you are guaranteed to have many exciting adventures, meetings with friendly new people and a whole lot of fun, but because Thailand is so packed with things to do, it can be difficult to know where to start, which is why I have narrowed down the options to a few key activities you shouldn’t miss out on.
1. A trip to The Grand Palace
Bangkok’s Grand Palace must be the country’s most famous tourist attraction.
Covering 218,400 square meters, the palace, which was home to the king and government of Thailand for a century and a half, will stun you with its opulent architecture and rich history, which includes a giant wall built in 1782.
Just bear in mind that you must adhere to a strict dress code should you wish to gain entry to the stunning attraction.
2. The Damnoen Saduak Floating Market
There are a number of floating markets in Thailand, but the biggest and best is Damnoen Saduak, which hosts a huge number of boats, all carrying precious cargoes of wonderfully fresh Thai fruits and vegetables.
Not only that but the canals and wooden houses you’ll see as you browse the floating market offer an interesting insight into Thai life.
The market makes for some good photo opportunities too.
3. Go Scuba Diving
There are more than 349 designated places to scuba dive in Thailand, and you won’t be disappointed by any of them.
You’ll see beautiful reefs and exotic marine life as you explore some of the clearest waters in the world.
4. Elephant Jungle Sanctuary
Elephants are beautiful and intelligent creatures, and there are lots of them in Thailand, so you should make an effort to see some while you’re there.
Undoubtedly, the best place to see elephants in Thailand without ethical issues is at the Elephant Jungle Sanctuary in Chiang Mai.
You’ll get to swim with elephants, trek with them, take selfies and generally enjoy the magnificent animals’ company.
This is one experience that you will never forget.
5. Go to the Top of Sathorn Unique Tower
Bangkok’s huge abandoned skyscraper was built towards the end of the nineties, but it was never finished due to the global financial crisis that took hold at the time.
Despite this, it has become a popular tourist attraction with endless visitors taking a trip to the 49th story for stunning views out across the city of Bangkok.
If you decide to take a trip to the tower, you will be able to gain entry by paying one of the security guards a small sum, but watch your back because many of the locals believe the skyscraper to be haunted!
