Stylish and trendy sojourn at OZO Wesley Hong Kong

Everyone thinks of Hong Kong as a city when in fact, it is a sprawling archipelago of 260 islands. By everyone, I mean including me. All along, I thought Hong Kong is one whole city slash country; apparently not. It consists of a few main areas – Hong Kong Island, the Kowloon Peninsula, the New Territories and over 200 offshore islands. For the purpose of being a tourist who wants to spend time exploring the main tourist attractions of Hong Kong, we considered staying in Hong Kong Island. Although hotel choices are limited to the upper range, finding OZO Wesley Hong Kong is definitely heaven sent.

This 4-star accommodation is located on Hennessy Road – the main street in the business part of Hong Kong Island. It is at the corner of Anton Street and Hennessy Road, about 10-15 minutes walk from Admiralty MTR. From the MTR exit F, we followed the signs towards Three Pacific Place walking through the covered passageway with walkalators. Past the cafes, there’s only the escalators to go up to Three Pacific Place. We then crossed Queen’s Road East towards Anton Street and voila! There’s OZO Wesley Hong Kong in blue and silver.

If my directions are still hazy, perhaps Google Maps can offer a clearer perspective.

Olivier and I were quite happy with the location. If you have been following my blog for a while, you will notice that location is one of our ultimate factors when choosing an accommodation wherever in the world. Equally important, we were delighted to see some familiar shops nearby such as 7/11 and M&S Foods which is often our refuge when hunger strikes in the middle of the night.

Upon finding OZO Wesley Hong Kong, we immediately went through check-in which was swift, so fast that we didn’t even need to sit down. I can’t help but wander my eyes through the striking contemporary interior designs of the lobby. The colors and lighting definitely bring out some positive vibes and energy which makes me want to linger a little more.

But, moving from Kowloon Peninsula to Hong Kong Island with a heavy backpack and a looooot of walking has undoubtedly pushed us to go straight up to our room for a much needed relaxation. We took the lift to 17th floor and as expected, the theme of the hotel continued on even in the hallways.

A few steps later, we opened up to a minimalist, compact yet radiant room. We noticed almost instantly how well-managed every inch in the room was. Finally, we were starting to experience the real Hong Kong ‘space’ affair. Nevertheless, we were still impressed.

Each of us has our favorites: I absolutely loved the nook which offers great city views while my husband adored the computer desk for his MacBook which he can roll away to create more space in the room.

Our humble 20-square-meter room is air-conditioned and has an array of amenities, including refrigerator, safe, coffee maker and free bottled water. The 32-inch LCD TV come with cable channels and we stayed connected with free WiFi. Our super snug plush king bed is dressed in premium bedding fit to leave the day behind.

At OZO Wesley Hong Kong, sleep is everything. They actually offer a ‘formula’ to drift off into a blissful slumber. With its black out curtains, temperature control and sound proofing, we can totally shut out the world. They also offer other suggestions to transport you to ‘la-la land’ such as purchasing a Dream Maker kit at The Spot or counting sheep by simply pressing the Sleep.Dream. button on the TV remote. How thoughtful is that?!

Aside from space, OZO Wesley Hong Kong also managed the toiletries economically. They use bottle dispensers for body wash, shampoo and hand wash. Even the laundry bag is reusable. Two earth points for that!

The simple blue-tiled bathroom with its glassed-off shower area suits our needs perfectly, although the frosted glass door doesn’t lock so if you’re not too familiar with your travelling companion, you might want to book separate rooms.

Like our room, the food is also kept simple yet enough at OZO. There’s a no-frills breakfast served at its ZAAN restaurant and an EAT2GO corner next to check-in that serves Nespresso and light snacks so guests can eat and run. We had the pleasure of enjoying breakfast at ZAAN which opens as early as 6:30 in the morning.

There are coffee and tea making facilities which offers premium quality morning cuppa. For heavy breakfast eaters like me, there is fried rice, bacon, ham and sausage while there is plenty of bread and jam options for my European husband.

OZO Wesley Hong Kong may not be a fancy 5-star hotel but it is clean, comfortable and modern. It is the perfect place – especially given its central location – to rest your worn out muscles after exploring Hong Kong Island.

  8. Wow! I love how the room looks, it’s modern and cozy at the same time. It doesn’t contain much which means you have a lot of space to yourself. The interior at the lobby and hallways are beautiful as well. Location will always be important when you choose an accommodation.

  24. Clean, modern, and stylish! I’m with you when choosing a hotel. Location is important, it doesn’t have to be so close from the main attraction, but it doesn’t mean it has to be far as well. I keep your post as a reference.

  34. Sarah, I visited HK 8 years ago and stayed on Kowloon. Wow, I had no idea, there were 260 islands. While I usually like to stay in the heart of “the city,” I had no regrets about where I stayed on Pratt Street. HK Island seemed a bit too crowded for me.
