1. How do you afford to travel?
When I was working in my home country – Lithuania, I was traveling mostly in Europe. Each month I was saving for trips exact amount from my salary. As well, each extra income I was putting to my travel budget. After I moved to live and travel in Asia, I do it from my freelance jobs. I try to travel smart and not spend money on things that I don‘t need or that is overprised.
2. What do you miss most about home when you’re away?
Mostly I miss spend time with my family, friends, traditional Lithuanian food and speak native – Lithuanian language. No matter how many languages you speak, how good you are in it, still, speaking in native language you can express yourself fully and people with whom you are speaking will understand you exactly how you want.
3. What was the best place you stayed in?
Till now, the most exciting place I stayed was the “klothok” boat. I was traveling in Tanjung Puting National Park, Borneo island (Kalimantan), Indonesia. It’s the only transport to reach orangutan sanctuary and as well a place to stay overnight while you are traveling through Sekonyer River. It was so peaceful and magnificent to sleep under the sky fool of starts, see around fire flies, listen to wild nature breath.
4. What’s the longest you’ve been away from home?
I’m already more than 1,5 year traveling and living in Asia (mostly in Indonesia). It’s the longest period, so far, being away from home.
5. Who was the most inspiring person you met while traveling?
During my trips I meet so many different people. All of them have their own life story, the way how they live, think, travel. All of them are so beautiful and inspiring. It’s hard to mention only one. Like each time I meet new person I learn something from him. Each person inspires me to ask, to think, to understand more, to see more, to try more.
6. Who is your dream travel companion?
Person who would have the same understanding about traveling and travel habits like me.
7.What’s the most interesting animal you’ve seen?
Till now, meeting eye to eye with orangutans was something amazing.
8. What can’t you travel without?
Without my phone (where I have different map, dictionary apps, music, movies), photo camera and notebook to write. As well main documents (passport, insurance, emergency contacts).
9. What place is top of your bucket list?
Even if in Asia so many amazing places to discover and explore, already couple of years I really want to go to New York. But I promised myself that till I won’t satisfy my “hunger” for Asian places, I won’t go there. Probably, I will need to wait couple of years extra to visit New York.
10. What destination have you found to be overrated?
There is no overrated place for me, if I don’t expect anything before going there. I like to read other travelers experience, opinion but mostly I’m focusing on the travel tips for destinations. We are all different, our backgrounds are different, our life experiences are different, our travel experiences are different. What one person likes, other may not like. I prefer just go to the place with open heart and eyes, take everything what that exact place will give to me.
