Carly is an eternal wanderer, forever seeking new places and new adventures. She loves sharing her travel stories and tips that she learns along the way. Aside from travel, she loves to write and her weakness for fabulous outfits and pretty things knows no bounds!
1. What inspired you to start your blog?
Hi guys! I’m Carly, the Aussie girl, avid photographer, writer and adventurer behind Let Us Wanderlust. I was inspired to start my blog in 2013 just before embarking on a six month stint living abroad in Canada and US. It was my way of staying connected with family and friends, but since then it has evolved to so much more!
2. How did you come up with your blog name?
Prior to quitting my job and setting off for six months of non-stop adventures, my blog name just kind of came to me one Saturday morning. I was enamored with the word ‘wanderlust’ and as my blog aims to inspire others to go out and see the world, Let Us Wanderlust seemed like the perfect fit.
3. How often do you travel?
In between adventures, I work full-time in healthcare, but I’m lucky in that I get four weeks of vacation leave each year. Most of my weekends are spent exploring my own backyard and further afield in Australia too. I love the outdoors and my ideal weekend is spent hiking, exploring and adventure seeking with my partner in crime (my husband!).
4. Who takes the photos you are in?
Either my husband, or if I’m travelling by myself, I’ll either pluck up the courage to ask a fellow traveller or use my trusty tripod!
5. Who is your biggest travel inspiration?
I have lots! I love my fellow Aussie girls Nicola Easterby from Polkadot Passport and Brooke Saward from World of Wanderlust and I’m constantly inspired/in awe of their incredible adventures and the content they produce.
6. What’s been the best street food you’ve had?
I tried simit in Istanbul and couldn’t get enough. Few things are more satisfying that freshly baked bread and Turkey’s version is so delicious!
7. What is the one thing you could not live without on your travels?
It’s a tie between my camera and my never-ending sense of adventure!
8. What was your most embarrassing moment while travelling?
Probably the time I was in the US and I asked a sales assistant guy to help me find a pair of thongs for myself. He went bright red and a little too late I realised I should have said flip flops!
9. How do you afford to travel?
I spend my money carefully and save like crazy! When I was saving to travel full-time for six months, I made it my mission to save on everything, everywhere, all the time. I’ve written a blog post on how I did it if you’re interested!
10. If you could move anywhere in the world where would it be?
I was born on the Gold Coast and raised in a small farming town in rural Australia. After years of city living and global travel, my husband and I have embraced our roots and moved back to live in the Australian countryside. To me, there’s nothing quite like wide open spaces, starry night skies and that feeling of endless possibilities, so as much as I love exploring far and wide, there’s nowhere in the whole world I would rather live than right here.
