Racheal was sixteen years old when Roam If You Want To by the B52’s was all over the radio and she was about to leave home for the first time to be an exchange student to Portugal. Did she speak Portuguese? No! Did she even really know anything about Portugal? No! But she was dying to get out and see the world so off she went. Her year abroad was absolutely amazing and was the starting point for a life long love of travel. She has traveled through North America, Europe, the Middle East, and currently traveling in Asia. Her favorite thing to do is grab her camera and get out and explore.
1. How do you afford to travel?
Travel is a priority in my life so I have a trip account and whatever extra money I have at the end of each month goes into that account.
2. What do you miss most about home when you’re away?
I travel a lot on my own so when I’m gone I definitely miss my husband and kids the most.
3. What was the best place you stayed in?
I would have to say that the Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom Temples in Cambodia are incredible making Siem Reap one of the best places that I’ve been.
4. What’s the longest you’ve been away from home?
I’ve spent 11 years living overseas in different countries but those places become my home. The longest vacation that we ever took was two weeks that we spent traveling through England and Scotland.
5. Who was the most inspiring person you met while traveling?
I’m inspired when I see other Mom’s traveling by themselves or maybe on a girls trip. Mom’s always do so much for others so it’s great to see them take the plunge and go and do something that feeds their soul. Whether it’s just to relax or for adventure, I think that’s awesome.
6. Who is your dream travel companion?
Johnny Depp! lol No, I have a very dear friend who is also a photographer and she and I really get each other. We don’t mind waiting for the other person to get that shot and we like to photograph the same things so traveling with her is fantastic.
7. What’s the most interesting animal you’ve seen?
Elephants are my favorite animal, but the most interesting wild animal I’ve seen were monkeys hanging out on the side of the road in Cambodia.
8. What can’t you travel without?
I can not travel without my camera.
9. What place is top of your bucket list?
10. What destination have you found to be overrated?
I hate to say it but I think Prague is kind of overrated. While I enjoyed Prague, I think Budapest is a much better choice!
