After spending a night in Manila, the Mr. and I are keen to leave the city. Both of us have been looking forward to going to Puerto Galera to celebrate my birthday and spend some alone time together.
We happen to drop by White Beach and Sabang area and there are vendors literally everywhere – relentlessly enticing tourists and saying NO just don’t suffice for them. Needless to say, this is the last thing you need on a holiday. So, if you are looking into some quiet time or soul searching moments then, Talipanan area is a smart choice. We stayed at DeLuna Diving Resort in Talipanan Beach, a good 10 minute ride away from the crowded White Beach. The place is modern while still keeping the whole “homey” vibe. The interiors are minimalist yet elegant. They have a restaurant that extends to the beach to cater large groups.
They have 20 clean and spacious rooms good for couples, groups or families. Room amenities satisfy the basic needs such as large comfortable beds, bathroom with hot shower, air conditioning and a strong wifi connection.
Prices start at $23 per night on low season, and $60 per night on high (and peak) season. Check here for updated prices.
The resort also offers diving courses and excursions in over 50 dive sites including a house reef. If you want hassle-free transfers from and to Manila, the resort can arrange this for you for a free. Other services include island tours, massages and motorbike rentals.
DeLuna is very compact but everything you need is there: beach, sun beds, hammocks and “weeping” coconut palms over the sea like on a postcard.
GETTING HERE
Deluna Diving Resort is exceptional in its quiet and secluded location. However, getting there is its downside. From the high way, going up and down the unpaved road is pain in the rear especially if you are bringing heavy luggage. If you hail a tricyle from the port, make sure the driver takes you to the resort’s back door. If he leaves you at the end of the ‘good’ road, insist on continuing the ride up (you can thank me later). Once you get acquainted with the area, getting back and forth is a piece of cake.
So, if you are looking into some quiet time close to the beach, away from the noisy streets and persistent vendors, DeLuna is the place to be.

I like the push. It stands in defiance against the hopeless “Someday…”
